It is thought that the presence of more people in the operating room lead to more surgical site infections (SSI). A systematic review was done to assess the effect of the number of persons in the operating room. We found 166 publications, 23 fulfilled the selection criteria. After reading the full text of these 23 articles, only the data of 3 articles was useful. The evidence of the three articles was low, the data only give a mere hint in the direction that more people in the operating room lead to more SSI.
